Welcome to Haslams, the
new home of Derby Rugby Club, and so to this years Three Counties
Juniors Finals Day. I hope you enjoy our facilities but more
importantly I hope you enjoy the Rugby, whether you are playing,
coaching or watching.
The organisation of
such an event with 9 games involving some 300 players does not simply
happen nor does the work in running the earlier rounds of the
competitions. Thanks must go to all those people who spend hours of
their own time over many months ensuring that each of the various age
groups end up with a cup winner today.
Two other groups who
deserve a huge vote of thanks for making today possible are the
referees, without them no games would be possible and to the members
of all of the individual clubs who run sides involved in Junior rugby.
If it were not for these people there would be no teams, no games, no
Finals Day and in all probability, no rugby in 10 years time.
Previous Finals days
has thrown up some superbly entertaining games and I don't see no
reason why today should be any exception so once again enjoy
yourselves and make sure that the real winner on the day is the game
and prove that local grass roots rugby is thriving.

of Derby RFC

On behalf of Notts
Lincs & Derbyshire may I welcome you all to the Junior Finals Day
at Derby RFC. Once again the standard of games throughout the season
shows the strength of Junior rugby in the Three Counties. One hopes
that the games today will be as good and open as last years at
Scunthorpe. Thanks go to the NLD Youth Task Group members and the
referees for their organisation throughout the season. I would ask
that all players, coaches and spectators not to abuse the officials or
opposition at any time. Remember that the object of the Youth Task
Group is to encourage youngsters to take up and enjoy the game at all
levels, to provide coaching and advice to adults who wish to become
involved in either coaching or administration.
The majority of people
involved in rugby are amateurs and give their time frely and for the
enjoyment that comes with it. Enjoy your day and don't be too
disappointed if your team does not win. All the teams today have won
the right to be here and with the standard of teams that in itself is
no mean feat.
Alan Shaw - Hon
President NLD
