The Alumni started
their second season at North Walsham on Sunday 2nd May,
reaching the Quarter Finals where they were beaten by the Samurai who
boasted no less than 6 full English 7’s internationals. On the
way they beat the Scorpions and Norwich RFC and lost to Northampton
Saints in a group game (their squad was made up of all full-time
professionals). Scores were: versus Scorpions won 21-19, vs
Northampton Saints lost 19-35, vs Norwich won 43-7, quarter final vs
Samurai (eventual tournament winners) lost 19-29. Big thanks to
Bob Spall and Harrisons, our sponsors on the day without whom the
Alumni could not have taken part. A collection on behalf of Tom
Woolrich raised over £600 on the day.
On Saturday 8th
May, the Alumni reached the semi finals of the Stoneygate 7’s and
were beaten by Leicester Tigers who won the tournament. Tigers’
squad were made up again of all full time players, at least half had
played first team premiership rugby so it was a marvellous achievement
for the Alumni. Scores were: versus Poly All Stars won 22-0, vs
Syston RFC won 24-12, quarter final vs Hinckley won 31-7, semi
final vs Tigers 12-31. Big thanks to Steve Muir and EMT Healthcare and
Brummy of Stash for their financial support without whom, in
particular Steve Muir, we would not have been able to take part.
Over £100 raised on the day for Tom Woolrich.
THE ALUMNI MARCH ON! In the three tournaments they have entered in two
years they have qualified for the main tournament – no mean
achievement for a scratch team.
